Meeting with Historian

September 7th, 2009

When I met with Dr. Hudgins to discuss the Lost Colony, he was helpful but also a little critical of my idea (only constructive, of course!) He thought the topic of what happened to the Lost Colony was a little too “slippery” for a 299 paper since there is not an answer to this question. He also thought it would be difficult to find primary sources for this topic. Instead, we talked about how I could continue to research the Lost Colony but maybe use a more narrow approach. We decided on Native American relations with the Lost Colony of Roanoke. The question that I will ask and then research is How did Native American relations with the Lost Colony affect them both positively and negatively. He also suggested that I could use diaries/journals written by the explorers like John White to help me. All in all, it was a very productive meeting.
